Sadique’s mom caught in NPF corruption mess
The Court of Appeal will this Friday make a ruling in a case in which Jeanette Mooketsi has through her lawyer Unoda Mack filed an urgent application to be given back a Mercedes Benz vehicle, which was impounded by the DCEC.
Mooketsi is the mother to well-known fraternal twin brothers Sadique and Zein Kebonang, who have also been implicated in the National Petroleum Fund (NPF) scandal along with Bakang Seretse. The vehicle was listed among the other items belonging to Seretse, believed to have been acquired from proceeds of crime relating to the NPF looting. Following the raid on Seretse’s properties and seizure of the listed items out under judicial restraint, Mooketsi approached the courts yesterday late afternoon.
Her lawyer Mack argued before Justice Stephen Monametsi that Mooketsi had not been directly implicated in the matter and that she had bought the car after a trade-in and topped up. He said there is no evidence that the vehicle had been purchased from criminal proceeds. The two lawyers and co-accused are accused of looting the fund of more than P200 million.
