Please save little Jonas
The family of four-year-old Jonas Ramojela is still pleading with members of the public to help raise funds to take him to India for a heart transplant.
In an interview with The Midweek Sun, Kennedy Ramojela said that travel plans to India this year June were unsuccessful as only P13 000 was raised from the required P1 million for the trip and hospital fees.
“We are still trusting God that Batswana will come to our son’s rescue. It’s not easy to see him suffer like this because every week we have to take him to the hospital for the ascetic fluid to be drained. After a few days, the stomach swells up again,” he said.
Jonas Ramojela has an inoperable congenital heart problem as well as abdominal ascites. The condition causes his stomach to swell. In a previous interview with this publication, his mother Keakabetse Ramojela narrated that the condition started in August 27, 2017 when little Jonas’ right side of the stomach felt like there is a stone inside.
Every Thursday she takes him to Marina where the urine (ascitic fluid) gets drained to reduce the swelling of the tummy. “At Princess Marina, they told me it’s the first time they are dealing with such a condition,” said the mother of three.
Several scans and x-rays were done but doctors say there is no cure for the condition. One Dr. L. Mazhani has this to say, “Ideally, the only solution could be heart or lung transplant which is currently not possible in our set up in Botswana.” Princess Marina spokesperson Donnell Kutlapye said they do not discuss patients’medical conditions with third parties.
Meanwhile, the family has opened a Facebook page called SAVE JONAS with banking details for those that can assist.
