No change in US/Botswana Visa policy

Government of Botswana has dismissed reports that United States President, Donald Trump has signed an executive order allowing all Batswana nationals to travel to the United States without Visas.

Government Spokesperson Dr. Jeff Ramsay told this publication that government has not received any communication in that regard. A false media report was yesterday published on various websites purporting that Trump has signed such an order.

It was reported that the new order, serving as a change in visa policy for Batswana travelling to the United States, would permit them stay in the U.S for a maximum period of 180 days for tourism or business purposes only.

“Stay over 180 days would therefore require a visa. Trump says this measure is to strengthen trade between the United States and Botswana. However, Batswana who hold dual nationality will be banned from entering the United States if their passport is from Syria, Iraq, Iran, Sudan, Libya, Somalia and Yemen - the seven Muslim-majority countries ‘of concern,’”state the report on USA Television.

Ramsay explained that as far as he knows, no visa requirements have been relaxed or completely removed.
