Murder accused denied bail
A 21 year old Francistown man accused of killing his girlfriend at Bluetown location on 13th May 2016 was denied bail by the magistrate court this week.
The accused person Moemedi Olatetswe who allegedly strangled Koziba Fani to death made a bail application when appearing before Francistown magistrate Thebeetsile Mulalu this week.
However, Detective Sub-inspector Tapiwa German of the Botswana Police requested that the accused be remanded in custody as investigations in the matter were still at preliminary stages.
Moreover, German argued that the nature of the case was serious and therefore the accused might temper with witnesses if granted bail. "I still need time to wrap up investigations on the matter," German argued.
The police officer further argued that remanding the accused in custody was in good faith as this will protect him(accused) from the deceased's relatives. “The deceased’s relatives will not spare the accused if he walks in the streets.”
Olatetswe on the other hand pleaded with the court for bail citing that he was the bread winner at his homestead. "I am taking care of my mother," said the accused. Meanwhile, Mulalu agreed with prosecution’s request to keep the accused in custody, adding that the bail application will be reviewed in due course. The accused is expected back in court next week.
