Mochudi in the grip of Kgafelamania
There is palpable excitement amongst baKgatla baga Kgafela tribe in Mochudi, the capital of Kgatleng at the news that their self-exiled paramount, Kgosikgolo Kgafela II has won the day in Moruleng, South Africa. A big party has been planned for Saturday September 23, 2017 in Moruleng to celebrate the feat as well as observe other baKgatla cultural practices and history.
It was agreed this last Saturday during a Kgotla meeting in Mochudi addressed by Kgosi Segale and Kgosi Sekai that buses will be hired to ferry those wishing to join the festivities. They will leave on Friday 22 September for the next day’s big events in Moruleng, which will include a speech by Kgafela II, whose victory over Nyalala Pilane is being hailed as ‘momentous.’
The celebration will also trace the sojourn by a section of baKgatla ba Kgafela’s from Moruleng (Soulspoort), the subsequent stay in Tshwene-Tshwene and eventual landing in Mochudi in 1870 under Kgosi Kgamanyane and their reunification in these latter days through his reincarnate, Kgosikgolo Kgafela II. There will be food, dance and music galore.
