Mascom celebrates 19 years in Botswana
Botswana’s leading mobile services provider, Mascom Wireless, this Friday celebrates 19 years of operation in the country, where they pride themselves with tremendous contribution to the improvement of the lives of ordinary citizens as well as the growth of the economy.
The company’s Public Relations Manager Barbra Gotlop states that over the past two decades, they have played a leading role in the development of the mobile communications industry in Botswana. “Mascom has established a comprehensive mobile telecommunications network with extensive coverage, high quality and a rich variety of innovative products and services.
On Friday, we will celebrate while looking back at the years we have been in Botswana and wish to make even bigger contributions to the development of Information Communications Technologies (ICT’s) in this country,” she said in a statement.
She added that through their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives, they view education as the main contributor to the development of future leaders of a country. “Our pioneering ICT initiatives have proven to bridge the communication gap between rural and urban areas in Botswana. During the 19 years in Botswana, Mascom has made noticeable contributions to the development of Botswana through the numerous CSR initiatives including thousands of ICT donations to primary schools and Kgotlas around Botswana.
The partnership we have with the government of Botswana has seen us hand over 95 Kitsong Centers to the youth to operate as their own businesses,” The mobile giants also pride themselves with launching a portal called “Tsena Botswana,” a platform that will serve as a one stop shop for Batswana and the international community.
“Mascom partnered with BoFINET to provide internet connectivity to all government schools around Botswana through the eSchools Connectivity Project. To date we have connected 225 schools around Botswana. This is an on-going project and we plan to connect over 500 schools before end of this year,” she added.
