Man found hanging in Old Naledi shack

Residents of Old Naledi in Gaborone South were left in shock yesterday (Tuesday) afternoon when a man was found hanging in a shack along Old Lobatse road.

The man was found with headset on listening to music. When The Midweek Sun arrived, police officers were already at the scene preventing the public from snapping shots of the dead man.

A Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Officer also approached The Midweek Sun photographer and threatened to confiscate his camera for taking pictures.

A woman at the scene said the man appeared to have had stress. “I saw him yesterday when he was passing next to our yard. He normally talks to us but this time around he did not say anything,” she said, adding that she never thought he could commit suicide.

Old Naledi Station Commander, Superintendent King Tshebo confirmed the incident, saying the man is from Zimbabwe but he was a resident of Old Naledi. “The doctor has confirmed that he is dead. At the moment we are still investigating the case to see whether the man hanged himself or was hanged,” said Tshebo adding that the man had been known to regularly visit the shack.

The incident was reported yesterday at 11am by workers at the shack. “He was a nice guy. I never thought he could commit suicide. I was with him on Monday and he never told me what problem he was having,” said a worker at the shack who refused to be named.
