Man arraigned for murder of love rival
A 24-year old man of Maipaahela in Francistown accused of killing his love rival on Saturday has been further remanded in custody. The state alleges that Emmanuel Ikaneng murdered Tebogo Gabanakgang in cold blood with a knife during a drinking spree.
Ikaneng who allegedly has a live-in girlfriend left her in the house and went to meet with his other girlfriend at Motsweding bar where he then got into a fight with the deceased over the girlfriend. He is said to have stabbed the man with a knife. It is alleged that after committing the offence, the accused went to the deceased’s home and told them that he murdered Gabanakgang and handed himself to Kutlwano Police thereafter.
Prosecuting officer Chimbisani Sechele asked court to further remand Ikaneng in custody saying investigations are at an early stage. “There are some witnesses who have not recorded their statements yet and we have not been furnished with the post-mortem report,” Sechele told court. Ikaneng, who had no legal representation pleaded for bail in response. He will be back in court on September 12 where Francistown Magistrate Kaperi Kapeko will hear his bail application.
