Kgosi Sekai begins work as Kgafela's deputy

BaKgatla-ba-Kgafela Deputy Chief, Kgosi Bana Sekai started his duties at Mochudi Kgotla last week Friday immediately after Minister Slumber Tsogwane had consulted the Morafe. Kgosi Sekai told The Midweek Sun this week that he met the Tribal Administration Department Tuesday morning to let them know he has no office. He is confident that the matter will be resolved expediently.

Kgosi Sekai will also represent BaKgatla ba Kgafela at Ntlo Ya Dikgosi, this being Kgosikgolo Kgafela Kgafela’s desire and also a recommendation of the Malope Commission. He said all that remains is to write the Ministry of Presidential Affairs, Public Administration and Governance to effect this. During last week’s consultation with Morafe, Local Government and Rural Development minister Tsogwane had to endure heckling from sections of the community that felt that his government was undermining BaKgatla.

They felt there was no need to consult any further since Morafe and Kgosikgolo Kgafela II had identified Sekai as his rightful representative. They also did not want any mention of ‘bo-rrangwane’ (Chief’s Uncles) whom they blamed for causing factions in the tribe and a rift with government. But an unfazed Tsogwane stood his ground maintaining that his consultation was to comply with the Bogosi Act. He also declined to be drawn into discussing Kgafela’s return to Botswana from South Africa; not his perceived legal infractions, saying that was the prerogative of the Attorney General since no one, “not even the President” is above the law.
