Kelebeng won't tolerate Pilane's gangsterism

The self-imposed President of Botswana Movement for Democracy Youth League (BMDYL), Jacob Kelebeng says they will not work with their enemies led by Sydney Pilane faction. This is despite knowing that the Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC) was to announce their verdict on the impasse engulfing the warring BMD factions last (Tuesday) night. After their controversial Bobonong elective congress, BMD has been run by two committees.

They both appeared before UDC jurisdiction to present their case about ownership of the troubled orange movement. This week the unapologetic Kelebeng said, “Pilane has caused a lot of damage in the BMD and even UDC, so working with such a character will be a huge betrayal to our people.” He added, “We want to assure our people that we are very much committed to opposition unity but we cannot tolerate gangsterism displayed by Pilane-led team.” Over the weekend Ndaba Gaolathe faction went around the country to brief members about the state of affairs of the party. Most of the regions told party leadership that they should form a new party and leave Pilane faction with BMD.

Kelebeng said as the youth they will not shun their people. “Where the masses go we will go. But we also respect the mediation efforts by UDC. Our plea to them is that they should put the matter to rest as soon as possible. All the evidence is there that Bobonong was a mess, so UDC should provide leadership and guide us to a fresh congress,” he said. He added that if they cannot call for fresh congress then they should choose sides between Gaolathe led and Pilane’s faction so that they move forward.
