Japanese government comes to the rescue of McCarthy's rust primary school in the Kgalagadi district

The Japanese has   granted 76 175 USD to the Tsabong sub district council for the   construction  of a classroom block at McCarthy’s Rust primary school    located in the remote rural area within the Kgalagadi area.

“This   is the fourth project being approved as the Japanese Government’s ‘Grant Assistance for Grass- Roots Human Security Projects,’ in the fiscal year 2016,” said the Ambassador of Japan Masahiro Onishi at   the Grant contract signing ceremony in Gaborone   this   past week.

“The project site   is McCarthy’s Rust   with a population of 269 and it is not yet declared as a settlement because of its small population. The village faces many challenges due to its location,” said Onishi. The Ambassador   said   other than a primary school, only Water Utilities reservoir and one tuck shop are available in the area.

At McCarthy’s rust, there is no fully-fledged primary school at the moment. Currently, there is only one classroom   block with two classrooms, which are offered to just standard one to three. If students try to continue their studies after standard three, they have to find schools in Tsabong where there are no dormitories available.
