I'm not Vee's trophy wife - Kagiso
Kagiso Sento (nee De Klerk) wants everyone to know that she is not Odirile ‘Vee Mampeezy’ Sento’s trophy wife.
In a no holds-barred interview with The Midweek Sun, the 28 year-old Kanye woman who has two children with Vee recently laid bare how she met Vee, survived bullying at the hands of his fans, and being married to him. “He’s a big artist in the country of course, but to me he’s a great husband and wonderful father to our children,” she says.
Narrating how they met, Kagiso says that she was a young Form III student in Jwaneng when she first met the Baba hitmaker. She was on that special night strutting her stuff at one of the beauty pageants and Vee was performing. She won the contest. The artist found his way of approaching her and the rest as they say, is history. “I grew up in front of him. I spent all my childhood years with him,” she says with a smile.
She would later go to Moeding College for her senior secondary education where the reality of dating Vee set in. She explains that other students started bullying her emotionally and mentally. “They would put fibre glass used in ceilings inside my blankets, scream and pass nasty remarks at me for being pretty and being with Vee,” she recalls, adding that she ended up pleading with her parents to transfer her to Seepapitso Secondary School within three months at Moeding. But it did not stop there.
She encountered more bullies who would at any point say things to spite her by singing Vee’s songs or just shouting when they saw her. She recalls a day when one weekend she woke up to newspaper reports that Vee had dumped her. Upon arrival at school on Monday morning, all the notice boards at Seepapitso had a piece of that article. There was noise about the saga all over the place. “I was shocked. I had to call Od and he came to school to pick me, and the noise stopped. But I understand it was just kiddies behaviour,” she shrugs off.
However, Kagiso admits the bullying did not stop. It got worse when she moved in with Vee after Form 5 as she had to attend his shows to support him. Among some of the incidents, she says, she has seen female fans trying to make her jealous by forcibly trying to kiss him in front of her or just throwing themselves at him. “I have developed a thick skin now. Nothing shakes me because I know the respect, loyalty and love that my husband gives me,” she says with assurance. She describes Vee as ‘a humble, loyal and caring human being ever.’
Not just a pretty face
Though she would have wanted to be a mother in her late 30s, Kagiso describes motherhood as an amazing experience. She says her first born, Elisha, is a humble boy who is not treated differently at his school for being Vee’s son. What many people do not know, according to Kagiso, is that she works with her husband behind the scenes as his stylist. She is a qualified AAT graduate from Botswana Accountancy College.
“I’m a very private person. You won’t find me on Facebook. A lot of people don’t know that I have worked at Capitol and Standard bank, but they are quick to say I’m just a trophy wife who enjoys spending Vee’s money,” she says, revealing that she is into selling statement clothes and jewellery. Her trendy glasses (KLS Collections) are available online and can be purchased through her Instagram page. She says she will be opening a boutique in a CBD mall soon. But her biggest dream is to venture into property with her husband. “My man is my mentor. I have seen him do business with clean hands. He’d rather pay people and be broke than sleep with an unstable conscience,” she says.
Asked whether they are pastors, she revealed that they do not own a church but just attend services like other people. She says, however, that Vee preaches and that ‘he does not accept money for doing so or for transport and accommodation when invited to preach outside Gaborone.’
