I will never join the BDP

The newly elected Vice President of Botswana National Front (BNF), Reverend Dr Prince Dibeela has sent a chilling warning to Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) to stop recruiting their Member of Parliament for Goodhope-Mabule, Kgosi Lotlaamoreng.

The MP was recently admitted to a South African hospital on account of ill-health, during which time Minister for Presidential Affairs and Public Administration, Eric Molale went around the constituency addressing rallies ostensibly to ‘revive’ party structures. “The BDP has provoked us at BNF and they should stop their dirty tricks. That constituency belongs to us and they will never take it from us.

They should respect the people of Goodhope-Mabule,” warned Dibeela. When Lotlaamoreng went to South Africa there were reports that he would defect to BDP because they were recruiting him and promising to pay for his medical bills. However, the Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC) says it has paid the MP’s medical bills of P25 000. Lotlaamoreng confirmed this week that BDP has on several occasions tried to recruit him.

“There have been those reports since I won the constituency. Even during the by-election at Philip Matante in Francistown South, there were rumours that a seat was reserved for me next to party leadership. I will never join BDP,” vowed Lotlaamoreng.

He added, “It will be a big mistake if I can join the BDP. It would be an injustice to Barolong, BNF and UDC. Mme hela ke fa go fitlhela ke bo ke swa,” said Lotlaamoreng. Councillor of Rakhuna, Aron Mothibi who defected from BDP to BNF, said last month in Lobatse that President Khama had told members that there would be by-elections in the constituency. “Those who were from Goodhope were not happy at the manner in which President Khama said this,” noted Mothibi.
