Gakutlo residents engaged in fitness boot camp

Resident of Gakutlo Village in the Kweneng district recently   engaged in a fitness boot camp and snake awareness campaign. Fitness Bootcamp Botswana (FBB) coordinated the initiative last weekend. The exercise was meant to sensitize residents on the importance of keeping fit and how to handle cases of snakes in their village.

Speaking at the event, Thero Moduke of Mmasechaba Aerobics Club said Batswana were now responding positively when it comes to fitness gatherings. He stated that this was a call to engage villagers in fitness activities as a way of preventing lifestyle diseases. Moreover, Fitness Instructor James Tamora said times are gone, when traditional activities such as herding cattle were considered to be a complete form of exercising.

“This is why we camp in places like Gakutlo in order to sensitize and teach the villagers through action,” he said. Both the children and the elderly took part in the exercise activities of the day.

Meanwhile Albert Tsatsi, a snake handler cautioned the villagers on what to do if they encounter snakes. He explained that there were poisonous and non-poisonous snakes. However, Tsatsi advised villagers to always keep a first aid kit with them when they are out in the bush in case they suffer snakebites.
