FIREMAN BURNS OWN HOUSE
Mystery surrounds an incident in which a Fire Brigade employee was found hanging naked on a tree while his house was burning and being reduced to ashes. The naked body of the 56-year old married man was discovered hanging from a tree last week Thursday in Lotlhakane East.
Neighbours of the deceased say the man who hails from Mathangwane worked for the Fire Brigade department in Lobatse. The deceased is reported to have reduced some of his accumulated property to ashes before committing suicide. One of the neighbours, Loagile Raditsele, 26, told this publication that they suspect the deceased is the one who burnt his matrimonial home before going to a nearby bush to commit suicide.
“His four children rushed into my home and begged me to rescue their father from the fire, as they suspected he was inside the burning house in the compound,” he said.Raditsebe tells The Midweek Sun that he immediately hurried to the burning house with the aim of helping the man out, only to find that nobody was inside. It was while he was frantically fighting to quell the open flames that he heard screams from other villagers, wailing and appealing for help over a naked body they had discovered a bush not far from the burning house.
According to Raditsele, the deceased only married in December 2018, adding that the wife to the deceased was not in the compound at the time of the incident. Even more intriguing, no one knows why the man was naked. “Up to now, we still wonder where he took his clothes to before he committed suicide. His wife was not home at the time of the incident, but the matter was immediately reported to the police,” he said.
Efforts to interview the wife to the deceased were not successful as she had already left for Mathangwane for her husband’s burial. Confirming the incident, Kanye Police Station Commander, Superintendent Mmoloki Mogale said that they are investigating a suicide incident as well as a burnt house among others in the compound. “It is true, the deceased’s house burnt, but police investigations are yet to establish what could have led to the incident,” he said.
