Fairgrounds CEO murder accused out on bail
The main suspect in the murder of Fairgrounds CEO Montshiwa will enjoy Christmas with his loved ones.Lawyer Modise who has been implicated in the murder was granted bail following a short mention. Montshiwa was gunned down in 2015 at his house in Block 6, Gaborone.
Details remain sketchy on what could have transpired on that fateful night. Broadhurst Magistrate Boipuso Tshweneyagae this week granted Modise bail of P5000 and asked him to surrender his passport and report to Gaborone west Police station every last day of the month.
"The accused should inform the investigating officer before travelling outside Botswana and should report to the Gaborone West police station as stipulated," noted the magistrate. It has been a busy year at the courts with several well-known and high profile individuals implicated in criminal cases. The threat-to-kill case of Minister of Transport and Communications Dorcas Makgato lodged against a disgruntled and rejected CEDA benefactor Wadza Tombo continues in mid-February where more witnesses are expected to be called to testify.
The case in which a so-called "millionaire" Phakalane businessman David Motawana was accused of threatening to kill media personality Benson Phutego following a road rage altercation in January 2018 has hit a stalemate as prosecution has delayed to present its argument.
Meanwhile, the case in which a former maid of Thea Khama - the wife of now Minister of Youth, Sports and Culture Tshekedi Khama - was accused of theft will also continue next year. The maid has pleaded not guilty to stealing items while in employ, that include clothes and cell phones.
