Butale is BDP’s latest casualty
Assistant Minister and Tati West Member of Parliament Biggie Butale, has been suspended for six months from the Botswana Democratic Party (BDP). He has 14 days to appeal the verdict.
This follows the recent expulsion of Tati East Member of Parliament Samson Moyo Guma from the party, and suspension of Lerala-Maunatlala MP, Prince Maele. Butale received the news on Tuesday at a disciplinary hearing that followed complaints filed by Tati West branch secretary, Thalosang Muchauza.
Muchauza had earlier registered a complaint against Butale accusing him of addressing kgotla meetings and telling constituents that he (Butale) will be contesting the coming general elections in October knowing well that he had lost the party primary elections to Simon Mavange.
Muchauza claimed that Butale’s addresses left constituents confused, as the rightful candidate was Mavange. Following the loss to Mavange, Butale had approached the Appeals Board but it dismissed his querry. He later filed a case with the High Court. The court case now collapses because even if I win, it won’t help,” Butale said on Tuesday.
