Bouncy's seductive dance wows YAMAs
Maureen Maila, better known as 'Bouncy', is a woman on a mission, and this year she is going to prove it. The 26 year-old sassy artist, stunned at the just-ended YAMAs when she performed her latest hit, Serope. She danced seductively, clad in a thong. In an interview with this publication, she explained that she was actually wearing a bodysuit styled by local fashionastas, Gatsh Fro. She describes it as a half panty. “I was nervous and excited at the same time but I’m happy that everything came together perfectly well,” she says of her look and performance. While some people bash her for always dancing nude, Bouncy says she has found her niche and that she is at a point of no return. “I’m fearless.
I don’t worry about what my critics say about me because it’s my life and not theirs. Actually, I ride on their negativity,” she says. She states that 2018 is her year and that she will deliver her best in everything that she does. “Everything from my music to my performance and looks is going to be dope. I’m going to push myself harder,” she says. She attributes her total makeover to her past disappointments and failures, saying they’ve made her the woman she is today. She recently moved from Off Campus stable to Heartbeat where she feels she will grow.
Perhaps someone who once gave Bouncy a thumbs-up is Youth Empowerment, Sports and Culture (MYSC) minister Thapelo Olopeng, who didn’t shun her after her provocative performance at the BOMU awards, but hailed her as part of a growing urban society. “She is part of an evolving modern society,” he told this publication then. Some members of the public feel Bouncy have all the elements of an international artist such as Beyonce and Nicky Minaj. She is also a free spirit who has repeatedly spoken about her determination.
She is equally mindful of her appearance as a celebrity. “I feel that most of us local artists find it hard to maintain our looks because people are not willing to pay us for the prices we charge. For me to look this glamorous is expensive, and I can’t take public transport to my desired destination. If I don’t have a car I need to at least use a cab to keep the momentum,” she says. Any lucky man in her life? She admits to attracting the attention of men, and that she always chooses to remain friendly. “I just let them know I’m not interested. Music is my everything,” she says.
