BDP Women's Wing joins Sebina fray
Botswana Democratic party (BDP) Women’s Wing has called on the mother body to revisit the party’s Code of Conduct and act accordingly in the Sebina saga.
BDP Women’s Wing Chairperson, Dorcus Makgato revealed that the wing’s executive committee met and came up with a recommendation that the party should revisit the code of conduct and undertake rigorous investigations.
The saga involves a BDP Councillor in Sebina Kemmonye Amon and his alleged conversation with the Assistant Minister of Education and Skills Development, Fidelis Molao regarding the impregnating of an underage girl by the councillor. Makgato who is also Minister of Health told a press conference in Gaborone this week that they would put the recommendation into writing and hand it over to the party leadership.
She said they also urge the party to speed the investigations as quickly as possible to get to the bottom of the issue. The chairperson called on Batswana to respect the law enforcement agencies and allow them to deal with the matter. She applauded the media for reporting extensively on the matter. Makgato however warned that the matter should not be looked at narrowly from the prism of politics.
“We should not make the issue about the BDP. We have to revisit our social fabric and look at it on a broader scope to see if the matter is political or social. We do not have a problem with people calling for the sacking of the councillor or minister but the bigger question is; would that solve the problem? I do not think the problem would have been solved, which is why we ask that the issue be looked at on a national scale”, she stated.
