BDP on warpath against Tawana Moremi

Maun West Member of Parliament Tawana Moremi was an angry man last week as he retreated to his constituency at the close of the winter session of Parliament

Moremi is annoyed that the nation was fed falsities that the infamous Okapi knife detected by security agents before one of the sittings belonged to him. Responding to the news Tawana said all the talk was the work of the Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) which has gone all out to discredit him.

However, he said this would not discourage him or bring him down but will instead fight the BDP propaganda against him. Moremi was linked to the recent Okapi knife that was allegedly retrieved by security agents at Parliament. It has not been stated as to who owns the knife. During Parliamentary debates last week minister of Agriculture Patrick Ralotsia spoke about the issue of an MP carrying a knife in Parliament.

This did not sit well with Moremi who accused the Deputy Speaker of Parliament of having shared his personal conversation about a knife with a third party. “My issue about the knife occurred last year and it had nothing to do with the knife discovered by officers who are doing the search before one enters Parliament. I was discussing the issue of security around our Parliament with the deputy speaker.

I told him it is not safe and I also showed him the knife I was carrying and for that matter it was not an Okapi knife. I am now surprised that Presidential Affairs and Public Administration Minister, Eric Molale would go on National Television and suggest that the knife was mine,” he fumed.

He said that Ralotsia also in his debate made remarks about the same knife. “I see the BDP is on a warpath against me but I would be damned to let them go unchallenged on this one”, said Moremi. He said that last year when he showed the knife to Molatlhegi, MP for Tati West Biggie Butale was present. Butale also confirmed that the incident with regards to the knife by Moremi occurred last year. “I was present when Moremi showed the knife to the deputy speaker.

It was not even an Okapi. I disagree that the Okapi that was retrieved belonged to Kgosi Moremi”, said Butale in defence of Maun West legislator. Moremi said he is much alive to the fact that the BDP would probably use this issue to de-campaign him in the constituency. He said that he is ready to fight the propaganda and assured his constituents that he is not what the ruling party purports him to be. He is confident that his constituents and the nation at large will believe him.
