13-year jail term for murderer

Francistown High Court, Judge, Phadi Solomon has sentenced Chebukani Chikunda to 13 years in prison for stabbing Coleman Nkomo to death in 2012 in Nswazwi Village following a drinking spree.

Chikunda stabbed Nkomo with a knife at a depot in 2012. Chikunda and Nkomo had been playing cards at the depot before they started quarrelling. When sentencing him, Solomon considered that Chikunda was a first offender and has not had any brushes with the law.

She also considered that he was young when he committed the offence and was drunk. There was no direct pre-meditation when committing the offence. “With that said, the accused is sentenced to an imprisonment term of 13 years,” Solomon said as she deducted the 14 months that the accused has served in prison.
