OLDM General Manager quits

The General Manager of Orapa, Letlhakane and Damtshaa Mines (OLDM), Alan Breen will leave the company at the end of this year, Debswana management has revealed.

Although Debswana management has not specified his resignation, close sources say that Breen, a British national, who joined the company in June 2015, is leaving for medical reasons. Corporate Communications Manager, Matshidiso Kamona said in a statement that Breen will be replaced by Bakani Motlhabani. Since joining Debswana last year, Breen has made valuable contributions to the company in several areas, says a statement from Debswana.

Using his extensive mining experience which spans over 40 years, he has also led measurable improvements in several key business areas such as “cultivating a culture of continuous business improvement”. The statement says he will be remembered for his instrumental role during the 2015 market downturn, when he ensured that the company remains robust and stable and ready for the upturn.

The incoming General Manager, Motlhabani will assume his role on 1st January 2017. Bakani Motlhabani became the Acting General Manager for OLGM mines since August 2014 after the departure of Adrian Gale who was GM for four years. Motlhabani, a metallurgist, graduated with a Bachelor of Engineering from the University of Birmingham in 1995 under the Debswana Scholarship Scheme. He holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Organisational Leadership from the Oxford University Business School.

Motlhabani is a highly respected and experienced leader and a strong relationship builder who fosters good partnerships with employees, business partners and community stakeholders. He has worked at both Jwaneng Mine and OLDM in different capacities rising to the position of Assistant General Manager at both operations.
