IIA Botswana in a drive to attract more members

Institute of Internal Auditors Botswana’s President Margret Mushango has encouraged local practitioners to affiliate with the local regulator. She was speaking at organisation’s 7th annual conference this Tuesday.

“We expect every internal auditor to be a member of IIAB, only a few auditors are registered with us and there is nothing forcing auditors to be members. Some subscribe for one year and fail to renew membership due to reasons know to them”, decried IIAB president.

IIAB president said they have a lot of work to create awareness about their organisation and to attract new members.  Mushango conceded there is need for her executive to find ways to create membership drive.

Meanwhile, an executive team member of IIB, Larry Baker has encouraged auditors to find simpler ways of advising management about audit and risk management principles. “Somebody somewhere knows something”, said Baker who encouraged IIAB members to find a way of accessing true information at work places. Baker advised auditors to provide objective financial information, strategic information to management at their respective companies.

The Canadian was one of the speakers at the IIAB 7th national annual conference from the 8th to 10th November at Gaborone International Convention Centre. IIAB member William Maboane encouraged auditors to educate their leadership about their roles and need to attend such gatherings. “I would like to urge you to go and spread the message. Let’s make leadership at our respective work places about the importance of attending IIAB conferences”, said Maboane when offering message of encouragement to members. Maboane who expressed his displeasure at the low turnout of senior auditor, explained that they have extended invites to more companies and received confirmations. “I know there are some ongoing meetings around town and the CEOs always attend with chief auditors. They are the left hand men to provide advise”, conceded Maboane.
