Botswana to join Coca-Cola Bottling Company Africa

Botswana together with her counterparts, Zambia and Swaziland are expected to join the Coca-Cola Bottling Company Africa (CCBA) in the next 12 to 18 months, Business Trends has learnt.

In November 2014, the Coca-Cola Company, SABMiller plc and Gutsche Family Investments announced that they had agreed to combine the bottling operations of their non-alcoholic ready -to-drink beverage businesses in Southern and East Africa.

Sechaba Brewery Holdings’ Group Managing Director, Johan de Kok revealed that having received all necessary approvals, the merger parties officially completed the transaction on 2nd July, 2016.

“First day of operations was 4th July 2016 and is headquartered in South Africa. The new company will produce and distribute approximately 40 percent of all Coca-Cola beverage volumes in Africa more than 30 African bottling plants,” he revealed. CCBA will serve 14 high growth countries in the first phase of the merger, which is now complete.

The countries are South Africa, Namibia, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Ethiopia, Mozambique, Ghana, Mayotte, Comoros and Nigeria. Botswana, Swaziland and Zambia will come in as the second phase after necessary regulatory and shareholder approvals.
