Train crashes man's head in suspected suicide

A cargo train crashed an unidentified man to death on Monday night at Ledumang, Gaborone.

Broadhurst Police station commander Obusitswe Lokae says the man was seemingly sleeping near the railway line when the incident occurred.

“We received a report from Botswana Railways officers around midnight on Monday saying a man was hit by a train. The man is reported to have been lying on the ground with his head rested on the railway line.

“But as the train fast approached, he allegedly straightened his body along the railway resulting in him sustaining severe body injuries,” he said.

The train crashed his head and cut off his arm.

It is not yet clear if the man wanted to commit suicide or not. His body is currently lying at a morgue after he was confirmed dead by doctors upon arrival at the hospital that night. Lokae said the man had nothing on him that can be used to identify him. He appealed to members of the public to help identify him.

The deceased appears to be aged between 25 and 35 years. He is dark in complexion and was wearing a grey T-shirt, long, black trousers, brown sandals and a red cap.
