The family of Katso Ramosielele (4) in Gabane is pleading with members of the community to help the baby boy with basic needs.

Katso’s grandmother Keaitse Ramosielele told this publication this week, that life is hard on her as she and her daughter who is mother to Katso, are unemployed.

Katso was found by a concerned Gabane resident Tshepiso Rantuna collecting empty tins and beer bottles in Gabane, probably for re-selling.

“This bothered me greatly and I felt sorry for him, he is so small to be seen idling in the streets. I then decided to meet the family so that we find ways of helping the boy,” Rantuana recalled.

The grandmother was quick to explain that they did not send the four-year old baby to collect empty bottles for them, but that the boy was merely doing what he often sees some family members doing.

However, she admitted that they are failing to provide most basic needs for the child.

“We need help, he has no clothes and shoes, we plead with the public to help us anyhow they can. I have other children that I am struggling to send to school, as schools re-open, I really do not know how I will buy their uniform,” she said.

Rantuana told The Midweek Sun that seeing Katso needed help, he went to a popular Pre-school in Gabane called University of Young Friends and begged the owner Mmaobene Mohapi to enrol the four-year-old.

Mohapi welcomed the boy with open arms, she agreed to have Katso at her school and even went an extra mile to buy him uniform.

“I understand fully that the Ramosielele’s cannot afford to pay tuition fees for Katso, so he is here with us for free. We are not just about making profits, this is our way of giving back to the community,” Mohapi said this week.

At a cost of P3 000 per term, University of Young Friends, enrols kids as young as six months, with a specialised baby care unit. Such is the amount Katso's parents would otherwise have to pay.
