Suspended BMD cadres snub disciplinary hearing
Suspended Botswana Movement for Democracy (BMD) leadership among them President Ndaba Gaolathe and his deputy Wynter Mmolotsi snubbed the party disciplinary hearing over the weekend.
Their suspension came after the duo participated in a youth congress in Ramotswa in April this year that the National Executive Committee deemed unlawful since the party’s National Working Committee had not sanctioned it.
Speaking in an interview with The Midweek Sun on Monday, Phenyo Segokgo who is also suspended from the party said they decided not to attend because they already know that they are going to be expelled from the party. “We are busy organising structures to go to Bobonong congress to correct the mess in our party.
We do not have time to attend the hearing because we know their decision is to expel us from the party,” said Segokgo.
Meanwhile The Midweek Sun is reliably informed that the Disciplinary Committee has taken a decision to call the suspended members again for hearing this coming weekend (Saturday).
Reached for comment, BMD Secretary General Gilbert Mangole said in a brief interview that he is aware that Gaolathe and his fellow comrades did not turn up for the hearing.
“We have very little control over the issue at the moment because it is handled by the Disclipnary Committee. What we know is that the suspended members are saying they want the party to expel them. I hear the committee has decided to give them another chance to appear on Saturday,” he said.
