Dead man's leg found missing in coffin

Residents of Chadibe in Tswapong were left in shock during the festive holidays when a funeral had to be postponed after it was discovered that the leg of the deceased was missing inside the coffin.

Speaking in an interview, Mahalapye Police Station Commander, Supt Olefile Badisang confirmed that they are investigating the case. “We received a report on the 29th December 2015, from Roscla funeral services that they have discovered that the leg of the old man was missing after they took his body from Lyn’s funeral parlour in Mahalapye,” said Badisang.

He said they are currently interviewing the employees who were handling the body to see what could have happened with the old man’s leg. “We have not yet arrested anyone at the moment because the investigations are still ongoing,” he said. The old man was supposed to have been buried on the 31st December 2015 in Chadibe village in Tswapong.

Efforts to contact managers at Lyn’s and Roscla funeral services were futile as they were out of the office.

Meanwhile in Gaborone, two women who have been hospitalised following injuries they sustained when the house they were sleeping in caught fire in Block 3 on 23rd December died on 31st December and 1st January 2016 respectively.

Two women appeared before the court this week charged with arson and attempted murder in connection with the deaths. Both deceased persons were aged between 31 and 34 respectively. Police have since arrested two ladies aged between 26 and 38 in connection with the incident. The duo appeared before the Broadhurst Magistrate court on 24th December charged with attempted murder and arson.

The charges have been amended to two counts of murder and arson following the appearance of one of the suspects yesterday (Tuesday)
