Shoshong residents decry poor roads
Shoshong residents are decrying the poor condition of roads in their area saying they need to be improved as the rainy season has approached. When addressing Shoshong constituents in a Kgotla meeting on the 4th January, area MP Phillip Makgalemele said he had come to solicit the views and opinions of residents so that he could relay them to government.
The residents expressed displeasure with a lot of things in the village. They decried the poor condition of the roads in the Shoshong constituency saying they damage their vehicles.
The residents also lamented that the rains would exacerbate these poor roads. Kagiso Seosenyeng, 29, regretted the time he was transferred to Shoshong constituency as he has literally been rendered penniless by the countless maintenance he makes on his car.
“Normally I used to take my car for service after every three months but since I moved to Shoshong I have to take it time and again as the roads are in a very bad condition,” he noted. Seosenyeng noted that most of the roads don’t differ from a river and it’s so bad during the rainy season. He said that even nearby villages such as Mmutlane, Bonwapitse or Kodibeleng were not spared from the curse.
Makgalemele concurred with the villagers saying he is aware of the road conditions in Shoshong constituency and that residents had long complained about this yet no action had been taken. The MP said the village needs its own Rural Administration Centre (RAC) to cut down on costs of travel to Mahalapye to access the same services.
“For now I will prefer the introduction of the RAC firstly as it would benefit a lot of people” he said.
