Murder suspect says Police tricked her

Murder suspect, Bakang Godisang, who is accused of killing two sisters last month in Block 3 in Gaborone has accused the police of misleading her.

Appearing in court for the first time since she was arrested in her home village in Mmadinare, she told Senior Magistrate Monash Ndlovu of Broadhurst that: “When the police came to me they said that I was taken because I will be a witness in this case but that did not happen. I do not know why they have arrested me because I was not present when the crime was committed,” said the pint-sized Godisang.

The Magistrate advised her that it was upon the police to decide whether they make her the witness or the suspect. State prosecutor, Onkemetse Gaboutlwele had earlier requested Magistrate Ndlovu to extend the remand warrant of the accused while waiting for her sister to return from medical attention.

“The first accused is currently in South Africa for chemotherapy session, we would like the remand to be extended and the charge sheet be read to both of them when she is present,” said Inspector Gaboutlwele. They are expected to appear again on the 1st of February 2016.

It is alleged that on the 23rd December, the two sisters, Godisang and Caroline Gwamolumba went to the deceased house in Block 3 in the evening and set the house they were sleeping on fire. The two sisters from Thamaga were later certified dead at Princess Marina while the child of another one who was pregnant is currently fighting for life at the hospital.

It is alleged that after finding out that one of the deceased was impregnated by her soldier boyfriend, Gwamolumba and her friend, Godisang went to the rented house in Block 3 and set it on fire while the two sisters were fast asleep.
