Politician appears in court for defilement
A politician with strong links to the ruling Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) has appeared before the Masunga magistrate court on Thursday for an alleged defilement of a 12-year-old school girl. The accused Casper Fire (32) appeared before Magistrate, Pride Rusike on a single charge of defilement.
According to court papers, Fire is alleged to have had unlawful canal knowledge of the child who attends Nkange primary school between October 2015 and May 2016.
The ruling party activist was arrested by the Tutume Police on Tuesday and arraigned before the Masunga Magistrate court this week. Representing the state on the matter, prosecutor Galetloge Batwaetse told the court that investigations are still underway. “There is still more evidence being collected from witnesses and we are awaiting forensic results from the police laboratory for analysis,” Batwaetse said.Moreover, the court ordered Fire who was not remanded in custody to desist from tempering with witnesses and report to the Nkange police post when required to do so.
The accused who did not have legal representation told the court he will engage a lawyer when he mentions on 12th July where trial dates are expected to be set.
