BDP happy about Kelemogile election outcome
The Botswana Congress Party (BCP) triumphed over rivals, Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) as it retained the Kelemogile Ward in a tightly contested by-election over the weekend.
BCP, which was represented by Seitiso Ditlhong got 826 votes against 725 of Best Mosadi of the BDP, with eleven spoiled votes. In an interview with The Midweek Sun, BDP Campaign Manager Matshediso Fologang said they are happy with the results. He said BDP managed to reduce the 2014 general election margin, from 519 to 101.
He stated that this means voters took note of their message. “We managed to reduce the margin with the little resources that we had. We gave the BCP a tough competition. They knew we wanted this ward so much. Hopefully in the next coming election we would manage to wrestle it from the opposition,” he stated. Fologang however expressed concern about people from outside the Ward or Ramotswa who were intimidating other people.
The election was conducted at five polling stations. For his part, BCP Campaign Manager and Member of Parliament for Ramotswa, Samuel Rantuana, said he was happy that despite competition being tight, they managed to pull it through.
He acknowledged contribution from their partners, the Umbrella for Democractic Change, and expressed appreciation for their relentless support ahead of the by-election.
