Hundreds of villagers will now see better

The Shiv Parivar, a group of likeminded individuals belonging to the Botswana Hindu Society (BHS) organised a free eye testing camp for over a 150 villagers from Gakgatla village in Molepolole and some residents of Gaborone.

The free eye testing and screening was done on Sunday 14th August 2016 at the Maru-a-pula, Botswana Hindu Society temple and hall. The villagers were provided with transport from Gakgatla village to Gaborone and back. Optometrists and Eye health professionals screened these villagers with modern equipment and tested their vision for defects.

The ones that needed spectacles were given a choice of spectacle frames that they could choose from free of cost. In the time frame of 2-3 weeks the chosen frames fitted with prescription glasses would be transported to them. The people who were gathered were also fed a scrumptious vegetarian meal at the temple.

The Assistant Minister of Health Dr. Alfred Madigele officiated the event with the Member of Parliament of the Maru-a-pula constituency. The prominent member of the Hindu society Mr Manhar Mooney was also present.

The assistant minister thanked the BHS and commended their effort and was hopeful that such initiatives will be continuous, as they would help the society. The villagers appreciated the screening and are looking forward to a dignified lifestyle with better vision.
