Donkey kills two teachers

Motorists have been urged to be vigilant on the roads following an accident that claimed the lives of two teachers on Thursday evening along the Nata-Hubona road.

Director of Traffic, Senior Assistant Commissioner of Botswana Police Service, Mosimanegape Katholo said the accident occurred when the driver tried to swerve away from a donkey on the road and bumped into another car.

Katholo said although stray animals on the roads are a cause of concern it is drivers’ prerogative to be vigilant when driving. “There are many stray animals on our roads but this should not become an excuse.

Motorists should bear in mind that animals can appear anywhere and should be careful on the roads,” he said. Katholo also said that abiding to road safety rules could limit road accidents.

“Driving at a reasonable speed, avoiding driving when under the influence of alcohol and being cautious on the roads could save many lives,” he said. He also suggested that people travel during the day as opposed to at night.
