VILLAGERS BLAME WITCHCRAFT

27-year old Koga English of Kgari village, is still in  shock after losing four of his family members in two separate road accidents in a period of hours.

English, who survived the horrific road accident that claimed his mother, sister and nephew’s lives is finding it very hard to come to terms with the tragedy that has hit the family. He sustained scratches on the face and has pains on his back, which he says are not severe.

“What torments me is that it all happened right in front of my eyes and there was very little I could do,” says the distraught griever. He does not understand what went wrong and is pained by the fact that he and his family were going to their home village to prepare for the funeral of his brother, Uyapo English, who had died in a horrific accident in Gaborone.

He told this publication that when they received the news of Uyapo, his 64-year old mother Maria English had visited his sister Kedibonye Motimedi in her matrimonial home in Chadibe.

“The family then arranged that my late brother’s best friend Kombani Stanford should take us to Kgari in his Nissan bakkie. They came to pick me up in Francistown in the wee hours of Saturday, hours after we had received news of my brother’s death,” he said, taking a deep breath.

He explained that his mother was sitting in the front holding his nephew while Stanford who is reportedly in a critical condition at Nyangabgwe hospital, was driving the van. “My sister and I sat at the back of the van. I took a nap, but after some 20minutes or so my sister woke me up saying I should see what the car was doing,” said the grieving young man.

He said that when he woke up, the car was going in a zig zag manner. “It had lost control. I saw Stanford trying to control it. That was it. When I woke up my sister was screaming, she was brutally injured on the thigh,” he said.

He said his mother was thrown some 30-50 metres away from the car on the ground while Stanford was lying on the ground. Another lady was holding his four-year old nephew.

‘My sister kept saying I should hold her, she was bleeding profusely, my mother had no scratch and was not bleeding. They both died,” he said.
