Disadvantaged girls empowered by Sprint Couriers
Logistics and Express Mail Service giants Sprint Couriers held an empowerment seminar for girls and donated 29 boxes of Always Sanitary pads to Patikwane Junior Secondary School last week.
The school, which is located 18 km north of Serowe, is sandwiched between Paje and Mabeleapodi villages. Speaking at the session themed ‘Empowerment of the Girl Child,’ Sprint Couriers’ Operations Director and co-founder Pinkie Setlalekgosi said they are keen on empowering girls and they want to see them grow into strong independent women. “I am a very confident woman and I would like to see you become the same. For you to get by in this world, you must know how to present your case, you must know how to reason and make your dreams come true. I want you to be confident,” she said.
Setlalekgosi told the girls that they must not give up hope if things don’t go their way academically. “There are other ways one can make a living even if you do not attain degrees,” he said. The donation was seen by stakeholders in the school system as a welcome incentive since most of the girls in the boarding school come from less privileged backgrounds, especially those from Tshimoyapula and Majwanaadipitse.
The School Head Oboletse Mbaakanyi used the opportunity to plead with Sprint Couriers to take over Patikwane JSS under the ‘Adopt a School Programme.’ Mbaakanyi told Setlalekgosi and her team that the school was faced with a serious lack of resources. In response, Setlalekgosi told the gathering that the donation of the sanitary pads was the first of many donations to come from her company in the future.Speaking on behalf of the girls, a Form Two student at the school, Game Kotopo, expressed gratitude to Sprint Couriers for the pledge saying that she and her school mates feel empowered because being a strong woman begins with being able to take care of oneself.
