Nata Senior Secondary school hit by severe water shortage

Nata Senior Secondary School is reported to be in a severe water shortage crisis. This dire situation has allegedly prevailed for the past two weeks

This crippling crisis comes at a time when students are busy writing their final examinations. Speaking to The Midweek Sun online   this week, the Chairperson of the Parents Teachers Association (PTA), Seadimo Mkhwanazi confirmed that the school has been facing water shortage. She said that Tutume Sub Council is trying to stabilize the situation.

“I cannot confirm that they have brought water to the school, but they said a water bowser will come and deliver water to the school,” Mkhwanazi said before referring this publication to the school head that declined to comment on the matter.

However, Marang Mpedi, the Public relations officer for the Central Region said Nata village as a whole experienced water shortages from 19 to 24 October 2016. She explained that the situation was caused by an incapacitated borehole, which supplies Nata village. The borehole in question was allegedly   vandalized by elephants.

“Currently there is low pressure at Nata Senior and to address this problem, both the school through the assistance of Water Utilities Corporation (WUC) are working together to resolve the problem. In the meantime, water is being delivered to the school and we are optimistic that the problem will be solved.” Mpedi said.

However, she said shortage of water has not had any impact on examinations as students have long prepared for themselves. “We only experienced slight delays in serving meals,” she added.
