YOHO TAKES ON HUMAN TRAFFICKING TRHOUGH PERFORMING ARTS

Youth Health Organization (YOHO) in collaboration with Maitisong has started an initiative to advocate for numerous human right violations in   Botswana.

The initiative will see the NGO advocating   for child protection, human trafficking, ritual murder, rape, gender-based violence and other social ills that affect children.

After being recently granted P550 000.00 at the 10th European Development Fund Empowerment of Non State actors programme for medium sized grants scheme.

The two organisations duo found it fit advocate for these social ills through the arts while creating jobs in the process. The NGO expects to inform   and educating people about these crucial issues through the arts. The Director of YOHO, Vuyisele Otukile said that it is important to take out these issues so that the whole community knows about them and find a way to prevent such atrocities.

His team is obliged to mostly educate children about these issues and teach them to be able to report the intruders as well using cell phones to capture images of the intruders, in order for them to be punished accordingly.

He added that they would be using musical theatre and stage play to emphasize these problems. “This would also help artist to earn a living and also recruit others, creating more jobs for the country,” he said. For his part, the Minister of Nationality, Immigration and Gender Affairs, Edwin Batshu said that the country needs such competitive projects to diversify the economy of Botswana.
