Parliament has been a waste of time – Tawana

Member of Parliament for Maun West, Tawana Moremi says he will quit politics in 2019, but return to Parliament after ten years to become the Speaker.

Moremi who resigned from Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC) to become an independent MP, told Parliament that things are not done properly in the National Assembly.

He accused the Deputy Speaker, Kagiso Molatlhegi of dictating to MPs on how they should debate in Parliament.‘This Parliament has been a waste of time since 2004 when I became an MP. In 2019 I will retire from politics and I will return ten years later as Speaker of this house.

I will restore dignity of this house. I will send MPs to Sbrana Hospital in Lobatse for disrespect because I can see that people are being stubborn. There is no tolerance here,” said Moremi.

He argued that as MPs they have rights to represent people who voted them into office. The legislator said they are being taken for granted. Moremi lashed out at the Deputy Speaker when he was debating a motion by MP for Francistown South Wynter Mmolotsi, which called for introduction of dual citizenship.

He said Molatlhegi has no right to tell other MPs what to say and what not to say. “We cannot be told what to say by someone from the ruling party. For that matter someone who has been voted by a small population of Old Naledi into office,” he lashed out.
