Rapid police response foils armed robbery
The quick response by Moshupa police last week led to the arrest of three bungling armed robbers who had kidnapped a taxi man and then went on to rob Choppies store of P84 760.
The trio, two of whom are from South Africa and one a Motswana, was nabbed the same day, on Wednesday while hiding out at a local bed and breakfast, Sims. Around 10 in the morning, Moshupa Police Station Commander Superintendent, Oteng Nganda said Police were alerted to a robbery in progress at Choppies and reacted swiftly.
“The investigation revealed that three men armed with guns lay in wait for G4S officers to collect money from Choppies. Once inside the suspects entered the store and demanded the money then fled using a stolen taxi,” Nganda said.
The owner of the taxi, who was tied, gagged and thrown inside the boot the whole time was shaken but not harmed, said Nganda. The trio appeared before court on Monday and were charged with two accounts of armed robbery, kidnapping and assault. “As investigation on the matter is going on, the public is advised to be very vigilant and report any suspicious persons or people around them,” Nganda said.
