Please help Molaodi
Molaodi Mahokole, an 11 year old boy suffering from Nephrotic Syndrome, is in a critical condition as the half a million Pula required to take him to China has not yet been raised.
Nephrotic Syndrome is a kidney disorder in which the kidneys leak large and abnormal amounts of protein into the urine. Various campaigns organised by Resource Alliance Botswana in partnership with other organisations to raise funds to send him for treatment in China have not yet yielded the required half a million Pula to travel to China.
Gofenyamang Mahakole, Molaodi’s mother has revealed that her son is in critical condition. She noted that for the past two weeks his condition has deteriorated. “My son is so sick. He has lost appetite, his eyes have changed colour and he can’t even walk without another person’s help,” she noted.
Gofenyemang pleaded for help to get her son to China for medical assistance to save his life. Wilson Mathews, Resource Alliance Botswana chief executive also mentioned that Molaodi is in critical condition. He said they’ve been running helter-skelter to raise funds but have so far raised only P23 000.
“We do all we can do to publicise and sensitise the public to help with donations as the boy needs medical assistance,” he said. Mathews said they are planning to open a bank account in Molaodi’s name where donations can be deposited.
Doreen Motlogelwa, a spokesperson of the Ministry of Health said that they haven’t received any news about Molaodi’s condition although he had been receiving medication from Princess Marina Hospital.
She said that the Ministry has facilities such as clinics and hospitals to bring to the attention of the health headquarters any need for help for any person with a peculiar health condition.
Nephrotic Syndrome is usually caused by damage to clusters of the small blood vessels. This causes swelling of eyelids, feet or ankles. Molaodi, a Standard six pupil at Boswa Primary School who lives with his parents in Block 9, was diagnosed in 2013.
