Rea, the dynamite in a small package
At 21, University of Botswana student Reagile Kopi already has a lot under her tiny belt. The Bachelor of Accounting undergraduate believes hardwork pays and is a living testimony.
She was introduced to the world of glitz and glamour at a tender age of 10 as the presenter for Mantlwaneng, and My Africa Dream show. At high school, just before writing her final exams, she found a job to do voice-overs for Yarona FM. She would then get another job as Gemstone presenter.
Popularly known as Rea, this young woman is always busy and seems to be enjoying it. She does not believe in idling. Barely before turning 21, she started her own online talk show in which she discusses girl issues.
Perhaps what also stunned about her was when she won the YAMAs Presenter Search last year. She impressed with her confidence and beauty. She has since fallen in love with MC-ing at corporate events. Her growth in the entertainment industry has also made her likeable among industry players who see potential in her.
She co-hosted Orange Monyaka last year and also RB2 Orange Top 40, opportunities she says she enjoyed as she got to mingle and interview celebrities. But what sets her apart is her strong belief in God. The industry, she says, is not for the faint-hearted.
Men see women as sex objects and if they are not grounded in God, they would easily give in. Her church youth pastor has even suggested to her that she tags along another churchmate so that she would not fall into temptations. “I’m not a policy-maker but’d like to make a show that will influence policy-makers,” she says of her dream to have a TV talk show.
Last week marked the 1st anniversary of her web show in Gaborone, where she invited influential women such as Gaona Tlhasana to come and address girls. With this mindset, the sky is surely the limit for Rea.
