I fear journalists - Robert Masitara
Former Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) legislator for Gaborone West North Robert Masitara has fingered local journalists for his deafening silence in his campaign for the BDP chairmanship position in the Central Committee elections slated for July in Tonota.
Masitara who has been eluding this publication for the past four weeks finally came out of his cocoon and blasted local journalists for what he termed distortion of facts. Masitara who has long shown interest in the BDP chairmanship has been silent since the beginning of the race fuelling speculation that he might chicken out of the race before the July congress.
The other candidates, Vice President Mokgweetsi Masisi and Nonofo Molefhi the Minister of Infrastructure Science and Technology, are currently traversing the country for support while Masitara’s camp seems to be facing a media blackout, something he strongly denied.
Asked why he is so quiet when July is just around the corner, the maverick auditor said he is not making his campaign strategy known to the public because local journalists always make fun of his statements by distorting facts for unknown reasons.
“I prefer to keep my distance from journalists who have developed a penchant for always distorting facts that I normally give them to suit themselves. Since you are also one of them, it will take some time for me to trust you with any story as I no longer trust local journos.
“If it was not the case I would be giving you the story since you have been pestering me to do so for so long. Currently I am engaged in a vigorous audit at COSBOTS and I will only have ample time to make some comments once the audit is through,” Masitara said.So far, Molefhi’s team has managed to win Francistown region, Gaborone region and the Central region which has the
largest number of councillors who are eligible to vote at the July congress. Masisi’s team was given a well-deserved boost at the past BDP Women’s congress which was held in Maun.
