Myeni dons VTM jersey
The signing of former Bidvest Wits and Orlando Pirates superstar, Sifiso Myeni is expected to work wonders for the ambitious Debswana First Division South (DFDS) side in the coming season.
Bafana ba dijabane, as the side is known by it’s legion of fans, will count on Myeni to bring his wealth of experience from the PSL to the local First Division League.
The player has signed a one year deal with the team and is expected to be donning their jersey for the entire season and lead them to the elite Botswana Football League within a short while.
Speaking in an interview, VTM President Vincent Mafuta said they are aware of the wealth of experience the player brings, however they can not shift all the responsibility to him.
“He has played in the PSL, Caf and for his national team but we are aware that he hasn’t been that active recently so we don’t expect miracles from him, we will play as per the coach’s ideas and
philosophy,” he said.
Further, he added that the player commands a huge following locally and he can be able to bring spectators to their matches and help in expanding their fan base.
The First Division rookies however do not have the ambitions to promote to the elite league this season, according to Mafuta they still have a long way to go. “We are an ambitious club but our ambitions are sound not exaggerated, we want to survive and protect our status in First Division, if we achieve that then we can think about the elite league.”
Moreover, the 34 year old Soweto born midfielder played for Bidvest Wits and Orlando Pirates and he won the South African Premier Soccer League title with Wits during the 2016/2017 season, he went on to win the 2017 MTN8 while on loan at Supersport United.
Although he last kicked a football in 2020 while playing for TS Sporting , the right winger is known for his skills and trickery in attacking areas and is expected to cause defenders a headache while donning the VTM jersey. The player represented his national team Bafana Bafana on five occasions.
