Sebego linked to Notwane
Members of National First Division outfit Notwane FC to take over as chairman have reportedly approached former Botswana Football Association (BFA) president Tebogo Sebego. Reports reaching Sun Sports are that Notwane supporters are unhappy with the current committee chairman Chimidzani Chimidza who recently took over from Arnold Somolekae. Chimidza’s main objective was to lead the club back to the elite league.
Sun Sports investigations this week revealed that the Chairman who resides in Serowe has lost control of the Toronto executive committee. Chimidzani is accused of failing to oversee the replacement of the Notwane team manager after his transfer to Serowe. With the 2017/18 season about to begin Notwane are yet to finalise its squad. Notwane were relegated at the end of 2015/16 season after losing a play-off match to FC Satmos in Serowe. Toronto, as Notwane is popularly known, failed to make a straight return to the top league after failing to unseat Santos for the second spot in the play offs.
Those sceptical about Sebego take over believe financially stable supporters who finance the club may not be willing to work with former BFA president. A reliable source close to the club said the current chairman is staying in Serowe, which has a bearing in the overall performance of the committee. The deputy chairman Prince Mosanana who lives in Kanye is said to be a very busy man.
“We failed to guide the club to the elite league due to lack of visionary leadership, not because of players ability,” a source close to the team said this week. Reached for comment, Chimidza said he was not aware of any impending insurgence among the Sechaba faithful. ”This is news to me. You cannot please everyone,” said Chimidza. The club chairman said the club pre-season performance is promising therefore there is no need to panic. However, Chimidza could not reveal dates for AGM before communicating with members.
Information reaching Sun Sport is that Sebego has shown interest in joining Toronto. The club Public relations officer Julius Baitumetse could not be drawn into discussing recent developments at Sechaba. However Sun Sport sources said those against the current chairman are preparing a team to work with the former BFA president. “We believe he is the right man for the job, looking at his character.
Notwane need someone who can stamp his/her authority as far as administration is concerned,” said a source close to the issue. This week Sebego confirmed that some members of the club had been persistently asking him to come and assist at the club. “I am yet to make a final call to it, but as a supporter I will like to see the club back the in top league,” said Sebego. Some of the decisions had to be taken,”Sebego said.
