Koko on road to recovery

Jwaneng Galaxy star winger Sekhana ‘Nandos’ Koko is currently recovering from a devastating leg injury that left him out of actions for close to year. The injury happened during a Mascom Top 8 fixture last season. The influential player who has played for clubs like Flamingo Santos, Township Rollers and Mochudi Centre Chiefs this week spoke to Sun Sports Reporter ISAAC PHEKO on his long awaited come back and the future of his football career.

Q: Have you fully recovered from the injuries you suffered during the Mascom Top 8 last season?

A: I haven’t recovered fully, remember I had complete reconstruction of the knee ligaments. The injury was just too severe so the recovery period is 10 months. I am expected to have fully recovered by October 2017 as the surgery was done in December 2016. Personally I feel much better. I believe by then I will have fully recovered by next month. Everything is on the right track so far.

Q: Are you returning to Jwaneng Galaxy as a player?

A: My contract with Galaxy was one year. That means it was supposed to conclude at the end of July 2017. However, the injury period overlapped beyond the contract. However, I haven’t fully recovered and I will still be with Galaxy because they are still covering my medical expenses. Any new developments will come after my recovery.

Q: How long are you planning to play competitive football?

A: My intentions were to play football until my legs could not carry me anymore but now this whole scenario has changed everything, as I cannot confirm anything until I am up and running again. Nevertheless if I recover well, I want to believe I can still come back as a player.

Q: Are you going to return to Galaxy as a player?

A: This one can only be answered when I have fully recovered.

Q: Please share you future plans after competitive football?

A: Well I want to come back and add value to sports in Botswana, be it technically or administratively it’s still fine. All I want is to see myself involved in sports generally in this country. I have enrolled in coaching courses as I now have CAF C licence. I have also enrolled in an online Football Marketing and Management course.

Q: Are you planning to take on a full career as a coach?

A: If the opportunity comes I will definitely take it with both hands. I love coaching as well.
