New BNOC athletes' commission elected

There seems to be gaping holes within the newly elected Botswana National Olympic (BNOC) athletes committee and their predecessors. The new BNOC athletes commission was elected this past weekend, however some of the athletes elected to the committee have denied having knowledge of the existence to the athletes committee at BNOC all along. “The outgoing commission has briefed us on their achievements and challenges.

I believe they have done well so far. However some of us were not aware of the commission and information could not be passed to us effectively,” said athletes who forms part of the new committee. The athletes committee was elected ahead of the long awaited BNOC elective general meeting scheduled for 7th October. Netball and Athletics had more numbers in the outgoing commission.

The previous committee was dominated by athletics, which was represented by five athletes. The commission included one person from netball and one individual from boxing. BNOC has 26 full member codes though less than 10 affiliates attended the assembly. The outgoing commission was made of Lechedzani ‘Master’ Luza as chairman, California Molefe, Obakeng Naigwa, Isaac Makwala, Portia Rasekhumba, Goitseone Seleka, Kabelo Kgosiemang, and Moses Jones. The commission is made of former athletes and active ones.

The newly elected commission will meet at their convenience and elect their own chairman. The commission will start their term of office after BNOC elective congress. The commission is yet to choose its chairperson who will represent his/her colleagues at BNOC board meeting. The new committee is also made up of Tracy Chaba and Monica Alfred from volleyball, Jury Manaka of softball, Magdelene Rebatenne of table tennis, and Stanley Katlego Matutu of PASSOBO. Moses Jones of Karate is the only candidate who managed to retain his position.
