BGU president voted African Golf treasurer

Botswana Golf Union (BGU) President Enoch Mushango was recently elected to serve the Africa Golf Confederation (AGC) as treasurer. AGC held its biennial congress recently in Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe.

The Sun Sport is reliably informed that Mushango was earlier nominated for the position of Vice president, which he did not accept on time. However, Mushango’s crucial appointment comes at a time when the BGU infighting is at the highest peak. Some affiliates more especially the Gaborone Golf Club are up in arms over the redevelopment of the golf course. This week, Sun Sport investigations revealed that one of the African countries nominated the BGU president, and the communication sent to the association did not reach the Mushango before deadline.

The Southern region is well represented at continental level , with six members on the board. The continental body is headed by a Zambian Joe Malanji as the president, assisted two vice presidents from Ugandan and South Africa. “It is the objective of both BNOC and BNSC to see local administrators taking positions in continental and international sporting organisations. The meeting recognised that Botswana is a stable economy.

They believe the AGC funds would be safe in Botswana,” an elated Mushango said this week. Sun sport has since learnt that the continental body does have an office yet. During the interview Mushango expressed hope that AGC may open its office in Botswana. “It is an opportunity to link the AGC funds management and propose that AGC head office be resident in Botswana. We can take advantage of the GGC redevelopment and offer space there,” he said. BGU is however expected to host the All Africa Junior tournament in 2019, and region 5 (Zone 6) in 2020.
