TAFIC fortifies defense
The first round of the 2017/18 BTC premiership season sees the recently promoted TAFIC FC maintaining damage limitation against more established opposition. The popular Francistown outfit is keen on surviving the season and maintaining their premier league status. Nevertheless Matjimenyenga seem to be doing a great job so far especially in the defense and midfield.
A case in point is their recent goalless draw against the dangerous BDF XI this past weekend. Clearly one of the pillars of strength in the newly revamped and rejuvenated Matjimenyenga is former Gilport Lions goalkeeper Lesego Bosekeng. The 28-year-old goal minder has proven his mettle when he made several crucial saves against the marauding Matebele in front of a decent crowd at the Molepolole Sports complex this past weekend.
In a post match interview Bosekeng said he works well with TAFIC defenders because of their intensive training under headcoach Elias Chinyemba and his assistant Pogiso ‘Wrist’ Mmusi. “As a goal keeper you should not wait to make saves. You have to be in control and command your defence,” Bosekeng said, adding that good communication with the defense eliminates the need to save dangerous balls on his part. The formidable TAFIC defense that saved the day against BDF includes Motseoatile Elijah, Thato Mosweu, Samuel Phiri and Kgakgamatso Ramotshosa.
In addition Bosekeng said he has a unique way of communicating with the defense. “Sometimes the crowd makes a lot of noise at the stadium so the players struggle to hear me when I give instructions. I have to communicate with they by whistling. When I whistle they usually respond.” Moreover, Bosekeng said hard work and going the extramile during training has paid off on match day.
“I usually call five players event after training and we simulate different scenarios even set pieces.” Meanwhile TAFIC legendary goalkeeper and now assistant coach Wrist Mmusi said his player are dedicated in training and the results were showing during difficult games like the past weekend encounter against BDF. Mmusi complimented Bosekeng and the defense for the good work they are doing in the first round of the league. In their next fixture TAFIC will be seeking maximum three points against minnows Gilport Lions at the Francistown Sports Complex.
