Rollers, Chiefs in mouthwatering Top 8 clash
It was not the draw many local football supporters were looking for, but the pairing of Botswana’s current top four sides at yesterday’s Mascom Top 8 Semi-Final Draw resulted in what promises to be a bloodbath battle between Township Rollers and Mochudi Centre Chiefs.
Ahead of the pairing, several supporters on the foreground of the draw podium at the bus rank rooted for any semi final draw that would separate the two giants of Botswana football with the hope that they could eventually meet in the final.
But as fate would have it, Orapa United found themselves paired with multiple semi-finalists BDF XI in what will be another tricky encounter too close to call.
Date, times and venues of the semi-final matches were yet to be decided and after the draw yesterday, the Botswana Premier League’s CEO Bennett Mamelodi said they would be working on the details which he added should be decided before the end of the week.
Incidentally, the four teams in the Mascom Top 8 semi finals currently occupy the top four slots on the premiership log table with eleven points separating leaders Township Rollers and BDF XI who occupy the fourth spot with 30 points. Orapa United are second with 38 points followed by Centre Chiefs who have35 points.
